The website of the Austrian Study Grant Authority complies with the WCAG 2.1-AA guidelines to a very high degree and was awarded the WACA Silver certificate. With this, another public institution sets an example in fulfilling the Austrian Web Accessibility Act (WZG). The only feature that is not yet accessible to every user is the online application form. However, since this is an external system that the website operator cannot access, this functionality was not included in the scope of the audit. The website was re-certified in 2024 and the certificate is again valid for 3 years.
The German and English versions of the website of the Nightjet – the night train of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) – including the integrated ticket booking system and the chatbot "Nightjet.Bot" are very accessible and correctly comply with the WCAG 2.1-AA guidelines. This is the first time that a ticket booking system has been certified with all steps up to the payment process. Congratulations to obtaining the WACA Gold certificate! The online presence of the Ombudsoffice for Children and Youths for Lower Austria (NÖ kija) based in St. Pölten was completely relaunched and subsequently subjected to an independent WACA certification process. As a result, the website was found to be very accessible. Many congratulations to the persons in charge as well as to the developers for receiving the WACA Silver certificate. The Austrian Association in Support of the Blind and Visually Impaired is the largest self-help organisation for the visually impaired in Austria. In order to particularly address the needs of the target group, great attention was paid to compliance with the WCAG guidelines and additional operating aids were integrated when relaunching the website of the organisation as well as the associated Access Austria website.
These efforts were audited and checked by independent, qualified auditors in a two-stage process. Both websites were awarded the highest WACA level in Gold and thus serve as role models for digital accessibility. The two websites were audited and re-certified in 2024. The certificate is valid for another 3 years.
The central online presence of the Austrian National Tourist Office ("Österreich Werbung"), which promotes Austria as a tourist destination, was retrospectively adapted to guarantee accessibility for all users to this important online platform. The most important website of "Österreich Werbung" with the URL austria.info was awarded the WACA Bronze certificate for its German and English versions. The re-certification was in August 2023.
The website of the Patient Ombudsman of the Medical Association of Vienna has been designed to be very barrier-free and largely corresponds to the international WCAG 2.1 - AA criteria. The website was re-certified in 2023 and awarded WACA Silver. We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to those responsible for and implementing the website for this achievement. This website is exemplary for many public institutions that have to comply with the Austrian Web Accessibility Act and are still working on compliance with the accessibility guidelines.
The BKMS® Incident Reporting of Business Keeper GmbH was awarded the first WACA certificate of the WCAG 2.1 - AA version. The whistleblower system is part of the holistic compliance platform BKMS® Compliance System and at the same time the first WACA-certified web application from Germany. Congratulations to the international company from Berlin for this special achievement. In 2022, the web application was recertified and the Silver certification was extended for 3 more years. With the fulfillment of the currently WCAG criteria, the relevant requirements of EN 301 549 are also met.
The international REWE Group has also made its new job platform in English and German accessible and received the WACA Silver Certificate for it. This is already the 7th WACA certificate for websites of REWE International AG and means that no job seekers will be excluded from the company's online offers in future. This represents a very positive step, especially in times when skilled labour is scarce, and will certainly also benefit the company's employer branding. The first digital agency to receive the WACA certificate. The agency Q2E from St. Pölten in Lower Austria specialises in web accessibility and has also created its own website according to the international WCAG guidelines. Due to the increasing requirements in the digital world, it is setting a good example for agencies to also deal with web accessibility and automatically design websites and mobile applications to be accessible. The website of the University of Applied Sciences (FH) of the Vocational Training Institute (BFI) Vienna almost fully meets the requirements for accessible websites according to WCAG. For the first time in Austria a university institution has thus been WACA-certified. Congratulations to the FH of the BFI Vienna. They set an example for many other educational institutions and universities that still have some way to go to be accessible to all users. The website was re-certified in 2022 and the WACA certification was extended for further 3 years.
The ÖBB-Infrastruktur was re-certified in 2022 and the WACA certification was extended for further 3 years. With around 18,700 employees, they plan, develop, maintain and operate the entire Austrian rail infrastructure. Only minimal deviations from WCAG 2.1-AA were found on the website, which may well be possible due to the complexity and size of the website. With regard to the overall assessment of the website, the auditor team decided on WACA in silver. We congratulate those responsible and implementers at ÖBB on this award. Excluded from the audit were external websites with a different URL as well as internal areas.
The website of via donau - Österreichische Wasserstraßen Gesellschaft mbH - is highly accessible and has therefore been awarded the WACA Silver Level. This organisation is the leading international waterway operators in the Danube region. In February 2023 the website was re-certified and the certification is valid for 3 more years. Congratulations on this achievement! This website should set a standard for many other public websites to ensure that no one will be deprived of information on the web in the future. External content (Blog, DoRIS and DLP) was excluded from the audit and therefore not certified.
The web-based application "Fabasphere" of the Linz-based company Fabasoft largely complies with the WCAG 2.2 - AA requirements and was re-certified in WACA Silver in 2025. As a representative sample of this product, 2 use cases were defined and intensively tested. This application does not exclude any users and allows everyone to use it. Due to the complexity of the user interface, however, it is recommended that keyboard users read the corresponding help page. Due to the improvements made during the certification process, it was possible to generally increase the quality of the Fabasoft product.
Congratulations! This shows that software applications can and should also be designed in an accessible way.
The website of Casinos Austria AG www.casinos.at and the associated webshop shop.casinos.at meet the accessibility requirements of WCAG 2.2 – AA to a very high degree. They were subjected to another certification audit in 2025. The main website of all casinos in Austria received the WACA Bronze certificate, and the webshop was rated WACA Silver. Since the last audit, many adaptations have been successfully implemented on both websites. Congratulations to Casinos Austria! They are a role model for many other online shops on the Internet.
The website of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG in German and English is highly accessible and consequently received the WACA Silver certificate. External contents concerning the schedule of trains (SCOTTY) and ticket bookings and reservations are excluded from the certificate, as the website operator has no control over these tools. These are independent websites and therefore not part of the website oebb.at.
